Dark Patterns and Gamified Spending
Live streaming rooms increasingly run on gamified spending: goal bars that inch toward a target, leaderboards that rank top tippers, and apps that let viewers pay to spin a wheel for a random prize. These are dark patterns borrowed from casinos and free-to-play games. Yet licensed gambling must offer deposit limits and self-exclusion, while cam platforms deploy the same mechanics with none of the safeguards. This is the consumer protection gap regulators are only starting to close.
